South Island Gallery / Whitewater / 2012-01 Murchison and Anatoki

No water on the coast at New Year, went to Murchison for a few days instead. Very lucky to to get the Anatoki in--the classic Golden Bay heli run. Paddlers: Paul, Rhys, Ladia, Andy and me. We ran it in 12 hours over two days, with a comfortable bivi overnight, despite the drizzle. There are some classic drops, but also about 10 hours worth of steep mank with a lot of portages. Day 1 had 13 cumecs and day 2 10 cumecs on the gauge, this seemed a bit low--a bit more would clean it up a bit and the big rapids would still be good (maybe 15-20 cumecs). Recent floods don't seem to have affected the river much.
